#WelcomeToCorregidor: A Historical Exploration

When I was in school, my favorite subjects were Hekasi, Social Studies, and History. While everyone in the classes was about to sleep, my eyes were wide awake and excited.

For most, studying about the past was boring but for me, it was going back in time and experiencing life back then.

My high school classmates and I had been planning of going out of town or country since our successful Taiwan trip. It was a two years plan to be exact and finally, we decided to give Corregidor a shot.

I am familiar with Corregidor since it was one of the places that had been discussed if World War is the topic. Yet, I haven't been there. It made me ecstatic that I would spend a day at Corregidor.

Our boarding time with the Sun Cruise ferry was seven in the morning.

My friend booked our tickets together with a day tour and buffet for almost 3000 pesos.

The travel to Corregidor was two hours yet we didn't feel like it was because the seats were comfortable and the deck where we sat were well-ventilated.

All aboard!

Upon arriving at the beautiful island of Corregidor, we rode to a tram.

It was like I was back in San Francisco when I first experienced riding in a tram. I was really looking forward to the adventure!

Kuya Nelson, our tour guide explained to us the history of Corregidor while stopping and pointing to the remnants of the war that happened to the place.

Our first stop was the batteries and bunks.

It was awesome that the big guns used were preserved and most of the bunks were very much intact.

We went inside to one of the bunks and it was absolutely creepy especially it was dark and quiet.

Barracks here we come!

The next stop was the longest barracks in the world!

I was awed seeing it because the structure was still standing. We had fun taking shots of it as our background for our photos.

Before the much-awaited buffet, because everyone seems to be hungry, Kuya Nelson led us to the dome and the museum.

The dome was magical because there is one particular day in a year where the sunray hits the exact center.

The museum was a great throwback to see old things from the soldiers, commanders and even photos that depict the true story of the past.

Cutie!

Devouring our buffet before I continue the afternoon tour in the next post.

And we can't wait for the afternoon tour!
