Golden Chicken House: A Place More Than Its Name

It is true that don't judge a book its cover.

When you pass by N. Domingo Street in San Juan and see Golden Chicken House, I would encourage you to visit and dine at the restaurant.

When you are coming from LRT 2, go down to J. Ruiz station. Ride a tricycle and tell you to drop to the establishment. You have to prepare 20 pesos for a special trip.

I was luckily invited to feature Golden Chicken House. The Chinese dining area has been around for more than 30 years. It is a family business that has been passed to the son, Mr. Jerwin Guan. The current owner who is very friendly and accommodating told us the story behind their restaurant.

Golden Chicken House fell when their father had cancer and there was a fire in the establishment. But, they were determined to keep it alive. They started delivering through bikes and it effectively helped them to go back to business.

The tragic fire experience led Mr. Jerwin to volunteer as a firefighter and eventually he established Golden Fire Rescue in 2006.

We were awe when he showed us the fire station! Wow!

Today, Golden Chicken House is known for its affordable and freshly cooked and customized pack meals.

Good news they are delivering within Metro Manila for free with a minimum charge!

During the blogger invite, they prepared sumptuous Chinese dishes to us!

*Crab and Corn Soup and Hototay
-The Crab and Corn Soup won my tastebud!

I 'm a fan of Hototay but this one saddened me.

*Buttered Chicken and Pineapple Honey Chicken

-With or without sauce to dip with, these two are truly delicious!

I liked how tasty they are!

*Yang Chow Fried Rice and Crab Rice

-Not a fan of rice but these two were hard to resist.

Crab Rice was something different so my vote went for this one!

*Super Special Misua and Sieng Chew Bihon
-I was warned by my fellow bloggers about how Sieng Chew Bihon to be spicy yet I ate it.

And if you are into Chicken Curry, this is for you!

The Super Special Misua is a must order!

Ang sarap niya kahit di kayo iyon mahilig misua! And this is served as engagement noodles!

*Crispy Pata, Patatim and Porkchop
-Delicious until the last bite!

Just don't eat too much of these two though.

Crispy Pata and Porkchop for my taste buds!

*Tokwa Fish Fillet and Lumpiang Shanghai
-These two are my favorite among the one which was served to us. I enjoyed the tokwa because I didn't taste the fish much and I think these two compliments to each other.

The Lumpiang Shanghai was a bomb!

Never thought I would like it though the presentation of the food was too simple.

*Beef Ampalaya and Chopsuey

-If you into more vegetables, these two are recommended especially their Chopsuey which I like greatly.

*Leche Flan
-A great way to end our experience with this not too sweet dessert!

I admire the good heart of Mr. Jerwin on building a home for his employees and part of the earnings also goes to the fire station which helps during a fire rescue. Golden Chicken House is blessed with a wonderful and down to earth owner. This is not only a typical place to eat but a restaurant with so much heart.

Refresh all day with Amihan Mist!

With the changes in weather in our country, most of the time we experienced humidity then all of a sudden, rain comes. Like our body, our skin also does not adjust easily.

It is important to keep our face hydrated and fresh all day. I'm glad to be reunited with my favorite mist: HG Skin Facial Mist.

I reviewed their Mistique a few months ago. They only had one variant but now they have three mists which suited for any skin types.

*Amihan Witch + Rosewater is for Dry Skin.

*Amihan Witch Hazel + Cucumber-Mint is for Oily & Sensitive Skin.⁣⁣ ⁣

*Amihan Witch Hazel + Lavender-Chamomile is for Sensitive Skin.

It has the same ingredients but lovelier packaging!

What is a great thing about their newest design is they make it for everyone! Yes! Your guy friend, boyfriend or even husband can use their facial mist! Men who are more prone to physical activities and working outside need skincare too! So Amihan Mist is suitable and perfect for them!

This is where the Amihan Mist derived from:

As Amihan was about to leave the newly-split bamboo stalk holding Malakas and Maganda, the two humans stopped the giant bird and begged it stay to protect them in this new world. ⁣
Amihan flapped its huge wings beside the two humans. In a swift movement, its mighty golden wings produced strong and chilling winds enveloping Malakas and Maganda. ⁣
“Remember this,” said Amihan, “whenever you feel this, the cool winds upon your face, know that I am there with you” and the giant bird flapped its wings even harder and flew off into the horizon. ⁣
Malakas and Maganda managed to trap some of the mystical wind that Amihan left and passed it down through generations and generations until finally, the people figured out how to have it bottled. The wind was so cold it made the bottles alway appear frosted, and that’s how the Amihan face mists came to be.⁣
⁣~Cooling, refreshing and mystical in the way it tones, soothes and balances your skin, Amihan will be your new favorite daily essential. ⁣

The Amihan Mists can be used as:

-Toner
-Moisturizer
-Pore Minimizer
-Wake up spray
-Make-up primer
-Setting spray
-And yes even deodorant!

Aside from the one listed above, I found something elsewhere you can use the mist!

I wasn't able to bring alcohol and because my skin was too itchy and I didn't want to scratch it, I sprayed the Amihan Mist!

And in an instant, my skin felt relieved. I used it thrice and it had the same effect! Wow!

Now that rainy season is in full effect, don't forget to bring Amihan Mist wherever you go. It is handy and definitely, your must-have everyday skincare product.

I can't wait to try their Oyayi (Eye cream) really soon.

Feel at Home with Ima's Kitchen

Home-cooked meals are still the best foods to eat. When I saw an invite to Ima's KitchenI immediately signed up for one.

Ima's Kitchen is located at Calle Bistro.

If you are familiar with Ever Commonwealth, it is just beside the mall. There are arrays of restaurants and hang out places in the area. You cannot miss this one out.

They set a table for us, and it was so sweet balloons and decorations.

It felt like someone was celebrating a birthday.

It was lunchtime and I was really starving because I didn't eat breakfast. The dishes that were given to us made my tummy happy.

Street Skewers

-This favorite 'turo-turo' was first served to us. It contained betamaxisawdugo and barbeque.

Pancit Puti

-Looks could really deceive. The presentation was bland but the taste was alright.

Ginataang Salty Egg with Shrimp

-The favorite Itlog na Pula with Ginataan and Shrimp, now that is something different! liked that it was not soupy and definitely not salty.

Pinaputok na Bangus

-This type of dish made me appreciate our national fish. Very Pinoy presentation.

Sinigang na Baka with Pakwan and Ube

-Level up to this meal that our mothers usually cook for us. The beef was tender and the pakwan and ube add a twist. I like it!

Calamari in Squid Ink

-I'm not a fan of seafood especially squid but I became an instant fan of this type of dish.

Sisig

-This proudly Pinoy delicacy was suggested by one of my fellow bloggers. True enough, this must be present at the table when you are at Ima's Kitchen.

Look at the rice!!!

Time for dessert and drinks!

Avocado Ice Cream Float and Avocado Shake
-I've been missing Avocado and glad they have one in the menu!

The Avocado Ice Cream is homemade and I love it very much!

I couldn't stop myself from eating everything.

The Avocado Shake is not too sweet, and I could really taste the fruit!
Mango Float

-This was favorite of everyone! like how soft and sweet this another homemade dessert.

Truly eating at Ima's Kitchen brings home away from home. It makes me appreciate our Filipino dishes and misses my mother's own touches on her cuisines.

Thank you to Miss Herl for inviting us!

Whilz Wheelcakes: Not your ordinary cakes

It was Father's Day and I was luckily been invited for the grand opening of the Whilz Wheelcakes.

It was held at Lucky Chinatown Walk

It is their first branch and we saw the excitement of their team preparing for the special day.

We were given ten of their flavorful cakes!

I listed below my verdict (I didn't taste everything because I gave some to my loved ones)

Let me  start with their three Bestsellers:

*Custard (35 php)
-The safest flavor if it is your first time and you don't like too much sweet.

I actually agree with Miss Ai that this is definitely a must try!

*Red Beans (35 php)

-I'm going to be biased with this one because any food containing red bean is my favorite. Their red bean cake didn't disappoint me.

*Chocolate (35 php)

-The oreo cookie on top and chocolatey indeed.

Two flavors in one with their Double Filling:
*Custard Brownie (50 php)

-Brownie inside a cake! Totally unexpected!

*Custard Macarons (50 php)
-Creamier but a lot sweeter than the regular custard flavor.

Want something International?
*Mochi Red Beans, Mochi Chocolate and Mochi Ube (45 php each)
-These three amazing flavors added with mochi was a blast!

It took me a surprise that they blend well.

End up with their Savory:
*Ham and Cheese (40 php)

-You can never go wrong with this variant. If you don't like to experiment then this is advisable for you.

*Tuna and Corn (40 php)

-Perfect for those who like health conscious.

Whilz Wheelcakes are truly affordable and the quantity fits with the prices.

I'll visit their booth again and would love to try their taro pudding!
